Rocinantes

We -Rocinantes- are an independent humanitarian organization, which mainly gives medical aid in Republic of Sudan.

Rocinantes was established as a non-profit organization (NPO) providing medical and health services to improve the health of people in Sudan.
When the President of Rocinantes, Dr. Kawahara worked as Medical attaché and the first secretary for Sudan Embassy of Japan, he was motivated for doing something for improving Sudanese’s people’s health. He then left from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and obtained medical license issued in Sudan for starting medical services.
In April 2006, Rocinantes received a certification by Cabinet Office as NPO and in August was registered as International NGO in Sudan.

Sudan is country known for its long history of wars and Sudanese people has continually faced poverty, refugee and health issues etc.
There is a particularly problem in medical and health hygienic. Slow development of medical technology and medical and health care services has limited for potential to improve the health of Sudanese people. People have suffered from Malaria, a tropical infection disease, AIDS and other preventable disease.
While United Nation and other NGO have been providing various services especially in South Sudan and Darfur, Rocinantes has been focusing in North and East Sudan which tend to not pay attention but needs for health services.

An origin for the name of Rocinantes comes from a skinny horse (Rocinante) in the novel Don Quixote.
Like a skinny horse (Rocinante), individual ability may be inadequate but if skinny horses work together as becoming Rocinantes, something can be done. Based on this belief, Rocinantes was named.
